Special talks introduced for the summer as part of JORVIK Viking Centre’s 40th anniversary celebrations are proving so popular that the attraction is extending its hours, for the rest of the summer.

Head of visitor operations, Gareth Henry said: “We have changed the visitor experience for the summer holidays, with prebooked timeslots enabling us to give visitors a special talk before they alight the ride through the recreated streets of 10th century Coppergate.

“This is proving hugely popular, to the point where we have been fully booked every day since the talks started on 22 July.

“We know that this means that some people have not been able to get in, and we don’t want anyone to be disappointed, so we’re extending our opening hours, opening an hour earlier.  From Friday 16 August, our first tours will start at 9am for the rest of the school summer holidays.”

JORVIK, which is based in the Coppergate Centre, added its move to prebooked tickets only plus a faster check-in process means that visitors should not have to wait more than 10-15 minutes to be admitted into their timeslot.
