Oh dear, I read that the council are going to tweak the lights at the busy Blossom Street/ Queen Street junction because pedestrians are waiting three minutes to cross (Green light for pedestrians: traffic lights to be tweaked at notorious York junction, Press online, August 8).
That spells disaster. Does it mean cars etc are going to have to wait longer?
All you need is to put the green man and bleeper on when the lights change to red but leave them on long enough so people can cross safely instead of turning them off before you get half way across.
Or you could do what they do abroad, and have a timer which counts down the seconds.

Are we supposed to leave our bikes at home?
Could we reopen cycle tracks that are now closed due to a total lack of maintenance?
Good money is spent building very necessary tracks then they are ignored as the width goes from easy passing other bikes to dismounting to allow someone to pass and finally being avoided in favour of using the road.
The asphalt is being destroyed by weeds growing on it.
Is the answer leave the bike at home and use the car?

There’s not much support for Haxby Station
I write regarding the article in The Press about 500 people signing a petition to ‘save’ Haxby station (The Press, August 10).
If only 500 out of 12,000 Haxby people support the £30 million (+ inflation) Towthorpe Road Station, on top of the 2022 survey which showed only 1,200 people were interested out of 30,000 in Wigginton, Strensall, Huntington, and Earswick, then it would seem to me a poor investment of our public money.
It shows there is no majority support for this site, as well as there being no infrastructure to access it.
How are they going to get the projected passenger numbers of 260,000 a year, when the York population is 222,000?
