A bit of Bollywood magic will be coming to the River Ouse – and everyone’s invited.
Shamim Eimaan, organiser of last year’s multicultural mela festival behind York art gallery, is organising a different event this year – a ‘Bollywood Cruise’ along the River Ouse.
She’s chartering the River Prince for a floating Bollywood party that will cruise up and down the Ouse between Clifton Bridge and Bishopthorpe Palace, passing under all of York’s major bridges along the way.
The evening cruise - starting from King’s Staith at 7pm on September 21 and lasting for two and a half hours – will aim to showcase a bit of Bollywood magic in York.
There will be Bollywood dancing, bhangra music, and a Bollywood-style DJ from Bradford.
“I’m hoping everybody will be up on their feet and dancing,” Shamim said. ”There will be a big party on board!”
It will, Shamin believes, be the first such ‘Bollywood cruise’ ever held in York.
“I’ve been thinking about it for a while!” Shamim said. “It will be for anybody who wants to come along. It’s really exciting.
“So grab your friends, put on your best Bollywood attire, and get ready to make some unforgettable memories!”
Tickets for the cruise, priced £26.99, are available from eventbrite.co.uk/e/bollywood-cruise-on-the-river-ouse-tickets-983941654977?aff=oddtdtcreator
Space on the River Prince is limited. “But if there’s a lot of demand, we might have to swap to a bigger boat!” Shamim said.
