'Fantastic' A-level results at Archbishop Holgate’s CE School, York

Archbishop Holgate’s CE School in Badger Hill, York, has recorded an "outstanding performance" - which saw 79 per cent of all entries receive grades of A* to B.

"We are so excited for what is to come in the future for this cohort," said head of sixth form - Frankie De Lashley.

"They have met and exceeded their own expectations and should feel extremely proud of what they have achieved."

40 per cent of all grades were A* to A, 100 per cent were A* to E, the school reported an average grade of B+.

Among the happy students were friends Aayush Mamgain and Omar Hamish. The pair boasted six A*s between them.

Omar - who is heading to Cambridge University to study Arabic, Hebrew and history - said: "I'm really happy, but wait until you see how he (Aayush) did."

"I don't know how I've done it, I can't believe it," responded Aayush, after discovering his clean sweep of A*s.

He will now attend University College London to study medicine.

Joining in on the celebrations was Elizabeth Middleton.

Having attained the grades A*AA - Elizabeth will be going to Cambridge University to study art history.

"I feel great, I'm really glad," she said.

"Archies was a great school but I'm really excited to go to university now."

Another pair of delighting friends were Jake Buckton and Benjamin Middleton. Jake, who obtained four A*'s, is going to Cambridge University to study music.

His friend - Benjamin - got A*ABB and is set for the University of Lancaster to study maths and computer science.

"I'm so happy, I've been dancing all day," said Benjamin.

The school's executive head teacher, Andrew Daly, reflected on a successful morning for the school.

He said: "We are immensely proud of the achievements our students have made during their time at Archbishop Holgate’s, both academically and personally.

"Our students’ results are the culmination of two years of hard work and determination and we are delighted to be celebrating their successes with them today.

"Thank you to our outstanding and dedicated team of staff for all their efforts and the unwavering support from parents and carers in helping our students to achieve their very best. 

"Finally, I would like to thank all of our Year 13 students, many of whom have been at Archbishop Holgate’s for the past seven years, for the many contributions they have made to our school and the wider community, we wish you all the very best for the future."
