Why the Lord Nelson really is the best pub in York
IN these uncertain times of recent years the country has seen many public houses close and disappear forever.
York has been fortunate and to a certain extent has seen new albeit modern bar-type establishments come into existence.
So it was with great pleasure to see a old 17th century traditional pub crowned Best Pub In York - the Lord Nelson in Nether Poppleton.
This pub was in dire straits three years ago and on the brink of disaster.
But a family with vision took it over and Tom Brown, with the help of his family and excellent staff, have turned this much-needed village pub around.
It is now a roaring success serving excellent beers and very tasty tapas plus Sunday roasts.
The icing on the cake is that the bus stops directly outside the Lord Nelson, which is very convenient.

Is there a queue to go to jail in the UK?
CONSIDERING there is a shortage of vacant prison cells and those are being filled with fast-track convictions from recent riots, are we to assume felons sentenced to jail under normal judicial procedures are being asked to form an orderly queue to await incarceration.

Police actions during the riots have been commendable
IT is easy to join the crowd, and even easier to spread anger and hate, but it takes courage to stand against the baying mob of morons.
Police actions during the recent troubles have been commendable.

Why is it so hard to keep the York station lifts working?
WHY is it beyond the capability of York station management to keep both lifts working simultaneously?
For months now it's been one or the other.
Are both the lifts and the management now beyond the sell by date?
