A North Yorkshire village community is preparing to take part in a memorial cricket match to remember a former "village stalwart".
The match, which takes place annually before the August bank holiday, brings together former Slingsby cricket club players, representing the 'Dave Calvert XI' to compete against a current Slingsby cricket club XI.
Now in its fourth year, the event is in memory of former Slingsby sports club chairman Dave Calvert - who sadly died in 2021 - after serving the community of Slingsby for many years, including as chairman of the village hall for more than 50 years.
The annual event has already raised nearly £2,000 for a number of different charities, and this year the charity chosen will be the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
The sports club said: "Living in a rural community Dave appreciated the life saving work that is done by The Yorkshire Air Ambulance and he was a keen supporter helping to raise money for the charity throughout his life.
"The day is a fantastic fun day for all of the family with food, a raffle, children’s games and the opportunity to catch up socially with friends."
With the day itself starting at 12.30pm on Sunday, August 25, the match will begin at 2pm.
A Just Giving Page has been set up for anybody who wishes to make a donation to support the event, and it can be found here: https://www.justgiving.com/page/paul-hogarth-1723805575310.
