Having read with interest the report in the Press about the inquiry into the ending of the council’s contract of support for the Salvation Army’s homelessness programme in York (Probe into homeless contract sparks row, August 16) I have one question, which I feel is an important one for the enlightenment of the general public.

The article states that ‘..the city’s new Labour administration was advised Salvation Army services were no longer needed’.

Please may we be informed as to whose advice it was which was so influential with the council that they made such an unfortunate decision?
