MEET Ruby, the 12-month-old crossbreed who is looking for new owners and a new home.

Ruby was brought to the York RSPCA's animal home off Landing Lane by the police because her needs were not getting met in her previous home.

"Ruby was very underweight and had an untreated eye condition," a member of staff at the animal home said.

"She really was in a bad way.

"Ruby was a very scared little girl on arrival and quite overwhelmed by her ordeal."

Since then, has put on weight, had surgery on her eye and is now on the road to recovery.

"All she needs now is to find her forever home," the staff member said.

Unfortunately, because she never had any proper socialisation before she came to the RSPCA, she can react to other dogs when out on a lead.

"She is receiving training for this and has come on leaps and bounds since first arriving," the member of staff said.

"She has seen our behaviourist and has a training plan in place which will be passed on to her new adopters."

Staff at the animal home describe Ruby is a 'bright little spark (who) excels in all she does'.

"She really just wants to please her people," the staff member said.

"Seeing her lovely little face light up when it is her turn to go for a walk and have one to one time is so sweet.

"Ruby really does deserve a family of her very own.

"Ruby is lovely little girl who has such an enthusiastic approach to life.

"She is friendly and very loving and just needs a family who will and cherish her."

Ruby will need to the only pet in an adult only home.

The RSPCA York Animal Home is an independent animal shelter and relies upon the support and funding of local supporters to allow it to rehome hundreds of cats, dogs, small animals and wildlife each year.
