The August bank holiday weekend is here, allowing millions of people across England and Wales to enjoy some much-needed time off work.

Residents in both countries will have Monday, August 26 off with this being the last bank holiday of 2024 until Christmas and Boxing Day.

If you're looking to get out and about this bank holiday but are concerned about the weather, here is what the Met Office has to say about the next few days.

The Met Office has said that those across the South of England can expect "heavy rain" on Saturday (August 24) morning with this clearing across the southeast by the afternoon.

The meteorological organisation added: "Sunshine and heavy showers follow, with winds increasing in the north. Feeling cooler."

Discussing the outlook for Sunday to Tuesday, the Met Office said: "Showers in north on Sunday, but drier further south. Rain again for the northwest on Monday but drier further south. Tuesday sees rain in the north but drier further south."

This comes amid a yellow weather warning for rain across the Southeast of England on Saturday.

The forecasters have warned of heavy spells of rain and flooding across the region and have said journey times could be longer.

The yellow alert will be in place from 6am on Saturday, August 24 until 1pm that same day.

This comes after yellow weather warnings were issued for parts of Scotland, Northern Egland and North Wales this week.

The heavy rain and strong winds were a result of Storm Lillian but have since started to clear.
