A woman in her 80s is in hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a motorcycle in North Yorkshire, police said.

The collision happened on the A6108 close to West Tanfield Cricket Club, north of Ripon, at about 2.30pm yesterday (Saturday, August 24).

North Yorkshire Police said the blue Suzuki motorcycle was ridden by a man in his 60s from Harrogate.

The woman was a pedestrian and from the Hambleton area, a force spokesperson added.

“As a result of the collision the woman suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to hospital where she remains for treatment.”

The road was closed until 7.15pm yesterday evening while emergency services responded to the incident and investigated the scene.

Police urge anyone who saw the crash to come forward if they have not already.
