Licensing and leisure commercial property expert Andrew Spencer has joined York-based Barry Crux & Company.

Mr Spencer has been recruited to work closely alongside Barry and Rosie Crux, to further develop work in the retail, restaurant, hotel, leisure and licensed premises sectors, alongside increasing its presence in the commercial property markets.

The company says he brings a wealth of experience in advising and acting on property matters, working with private individuals to large public listed corporations.

In more than two decades in the industry Andrew has sold, let and acquired sites for clients including community public houses, high street circuit bars, restaurants, night clubs and packages of sites across Yorkshire, the North East and North Lincolnshire.

And he says the opportunity to do what he loves with Barry Crux & Company was too good to turn down, selecting the move ahead of other potential positions which recently became available.

Andrew said: “This is very much me coming back to a specialism which I know really well, and in which I have good experience and many contacts, with a business which has a proven reputation in this area of work."

“My background for the vast majority of my career has been in leisure and licensing property, it’s what I know, what I enjoy, and having worked for the past year or so in general commercial property deals, I feel I’m getting back to what I know best, and where I can add best value for my employer, and our clients.”

Having worked in commercial property for more than 25 years, Andrew, 51, feels there is ‘plenty of potential for growth’ at Barry Crux and Company, especially now it is part of the Garness Group, and working closely in partnership with the Garness Jones business.

He said: “There’s plenty of experience around the table and the two businesses bring new knowledge and contacts to one another which is going to bring big benefits. The target is growth into new areas and markets for each business over time."

“Certainly Barry Crux is well known and established in York, and also across North Yorkshire, but there are opportunities for further growth in licensing and leisure in Hull and East Yorkshire too as well as the North of England.”

Andrew, a Qualified as RICS Associate in Real Estate Agency, joins from Bradley Hall, having previously spent 16 years at Fleurets chartered surveyors and five years with Christie & Co.
