A wedding dress store which opened in York earlier this month has reported a successful first week of trading.
Peggy in Coney Street promises savings of up to 70% on wedding dresses bought off-the-peg, as the dresses will have been samples.
Its owner believes customers will have saved ‘thousands’ in the period since it opened on Saturday August 17.
The business is the creation of Shannon Martin, a former contestant on the Apprentice, who opened her Dotty Bridal store in Holmfirth, West Yorkshire, ten years ago.

Shannon said this week: “We have been thrilled with our opening week and the number of brides-to-be who came to see us to seek our help in finding their perfect dress,” said Mrs Martin.
“There was such a good buzz around the shop all week. We had five brides find their dream dress on the first day alone and had so much lovely feedback throughout the week about our offering.
“The people of York have been very welcoming and supportive and many were saying that they were delighted to see us investing into the city, and this particular street.
“We had one customer who came in with her grandmother, who was called Peggy herself, and she had spotted that we were opening in the media and told her granddaughter.
“The girl found a gown which she described as her dream dress, at a great saving, and as soon as she came out of the dressing room with it on she knew it was the one for her. Her mum was crying and it was so emotional. She said she felt like fate brought her to us, so that was wonderful. It is what it is all about.”
Shannon continued: “In total, from the dresses sold in the first seven days, our customers saved thousands on the dresses they bought compared to if they had been sold in a boutique,” she said.
“One bride left with a dress which was originally priced at £4,120 for just £1,500. It just goes to show how sample wedding gowns are a great alternative for brides on a bit of a budget who don’t want to compromise on quality and style.
“They’re one-off designer gowns, and I think that’s why we see people walk in and walk out with a dress that same day, as when they find a style and size that suits, they know that there’s only that one available and hate the idea of returning later to see it has gone.
“The most positive thing for me was that we’ve already seen that York is a great market for us. It’s our first venture out of Holmfirth, where we have Dotty Bridal and another Peggy store, and it’s perhaps the start of further growth and expansion for us.
“I was very selective when it came to choosing the second location for my business. I was always confident York would provide the perfect base, and the start we’ve had has suggested I was right. It is fantastic to be in this great city.”
