As The Press reported earlier, a police cordon was in place around a bench in North Street Gardens, next to the River Ouse.

A police officer was on the scene at 10am with a police van parked on North Street, outside the gardens.

An empty beer bottle was on its side below the bench with a Corona Extra lager box lying across from it.

Meanwhile, a police cordon was in Piccadilly close to the entrance to the City of York Council car park this morning.

The entrance to the riverside access to the Coppergate Centre was taped off with a police scene guard in place.

The pedestrian entrance to the Coppergate Centre was closed.
