A pub in the North York Moors with "marshmallow-soft" beds has been crowned among the best 10 renovated English foodie inns by The Guardian.
The Owl at Hawnby was complimented for offering “creative” dishes made with local produce to try whatever the weather – from relaxing on the terrace during the warmer months of the year, to cosying up by the fire during winter.
The Guardian explained about its travel guide: “From a 16th-century former pub on the Isle of Wight to a boutique hotel in the Lake District, these refurbished inns and coaching houses offer a mouthwatering stay in all seasons.”

What did The Guardian say about The Owl?
The publisher wrote: “Seven months after it reopened under the new ownership of renowned Yorkshire chef Sam Varley, the Owl made it into both the Michelin Guide and the Good Food Guide last month.
“Depending on the time of year, meals can be taken on the sunny terrace, in the elegant dining room or in front of the fire in the stone-flagged bar.
“Expect creative dishes with a focus on local produce – spatchcock tandoori quail, ‘hog and hop’ sausages, pork T-bone with roasted peach.
“The nine bedrooms have a cocoon-like feel with deep green walls and marshmallow-soft beds.”
Over on Tripadvisor, many guests have recommended the North Yorkshire inn for a place to stay.

Someone recently shared a review saying: “We stayed the night here, lovely clean room, with very comfy beds. Lovely food, something a little special that you would not find in any old pub, so really enjoyed being spoilt. Great breakfast, and fantastic location.”
Another added: “Excellent Sunday Lunch. Friendly, helpful staff. Highly recommended. As it was a celebration, complimentary fizz was provided which was a very nice touch.”
The Owl at Hawnby was formerly a Drovers’ Inn dating back to the 19th century, according to its website.
