A York-based craft fabric company’s plans for a central operations hub at a recently-constructed business park have been approved.
Bugsweed’s Retail Ltd’s plans for Unit 3 in Clifton Moor’s Marrtree Business Park includes space for displaying products, a craft studio offering classes and tuition, storage and sewing machine repairs.
The application approved by City of York Council stated the site would become a central hub for operations, business and expansion at a superb location on the outskirts of the city.
The hub is set to move into Marrtre Business Park on the site of a former B&M store destroyed following a fire caused by a discarded cigarette in 2018.
Plans for the business park were approved in 2022 and work began in January last year.
Bugsweed’s Retail Ltd which lodged plans for Unit 3 of the business park is part of the Budsweed’s Group of Companies Ltd which focuses on the craft industry.
The business aims to offer a one-stop-shop for quilting and dressmaking fabrics, haberdashery, knitting, crochet and pattern printing.
It also sells sewing machines and offers servicing and repairs along with craft courses and events for both adults and children.
The hub proposed at the business park would feature areas designed to support the different parts of Bugsweed’s business operations.
A mezzanine floor would be installed to accommodate storage and distribution facilities.

They stated: “The unit subject of this application is about to receive investment from a future tenant and be brought into use.

The company also operates a business park in Bradford.
