Historic sites in North Yorkshire are holding a free open day.
Heritage Open Days is a schemed by English Heritage set to take place this September at two of its North Yorkshire abbeys.
According to a spokesperson for the sites: “The idea behind Heritage Open Day is that visitors can come along and experience activities like tours, talks, etc but all for free.”

The two sites involved in the open days project are Easby Abbey, on the outskirts of Richmond, and Byland Abbey, in the North York Moors National Park close to Wass.
Byland is hosting four different events: Byland Abbey in 90 Seconds (a 'Tiktok tour'); What can we learn from Medieval Monks about Sustainable living; Dissolution: A Monk's Story; and Heavens above! What on earth did monks do? - all of which require pre-booking to attend and run from September 7 to 14.
Easby Abbey, close to Richdmond, is holding just one event - Easby, The Romantic Ruin - on September 7 and 11 at 2pm – a themed tour focusing on the most recent 300 years of the abbey's 850-year history and looking at how the ruins have changed within the wider context.
