More than 150 customers queued up for the opening of a new shop in North Yorkshire earlier this week.

A new Iceland: The Food Warehouse opened at Three Lakes Retail Park, Selby, on Tuesday (September 3).

The new superstore saw more than 150 customers eagerly waiting in line from 4.45am for the shop to be opened to the public.

To celebrate the grand opening, the Selby store gave away £1,000 of store vouchers to the first 100 customers in the queue, with a free tray of Ferrero Rocher given to the first 200 people through the checkout.  

Everyone who joined the queue before 7.45am received a free raffle ticket which saw five shoppers given the chance to live their TV dreams and take part in a two-minute supermarket sweep - a trolley dash around the entire empty store where they were able to fill their trolleys.

The raffle which saw three winners take home a Tower 2-in-1 Blender and Grinder and an additional seven won a Tower 4 Litre Air Fryer.

The store is bringing an estimated 29 additional jobs to the local community.

James Bacon, store manager at the new Food Warehouse, said: “We’re so pleased to welcome Selby shoppers to our brand new The Food Warehouse store. Everyone was so excited for the grand opening – people were even in the queue from 4.45am this morning!

Kristian Barrett, group retail director at Iceland Foods, added: “We’re thrilled to have opened our new Selby store, ensuring even more local residents can get their hands on market-leading deals, alongside a brilliant range of frozen, grocery and fresh foods.”

The store will be open from 8am – 8pm Monday-Saturday, and from 10am to 4pm on Sundays.
