GlitterBeam Radio, which bills itself as “the UK’s vibrant LGBTQ+ radio station”, launches on DAB in York today (Friday).

The move expands its reach to over 200,000 potential listeners in the historic city.

Founded by Eugenio Ceriello and Michael Walton-Dalzell, the station has been streaming online since July 2019, before being made available on DAB in Rotherham, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Coventry, Blackpool, and the island of Malta.

With a diverse range of shows, presenters, and DJs, GlitterBeam celebrates the full spectrum of LGBTQ+ life and promises a touch of sparkle on the airwaves.

GlitterBeam has also covered events such as Pride festivals across England and was nominated for a Rainbow Honours award in 2019 and 2023.

In addition to DAB, the station can also be listened to on a phone by using the GlitterBeam app. It can also be listened to by using smart devices and through live streaming at GlitterBeam.co.uk.

GlitterBeam Radio director Eugenio Ceriello said: “We’re incredibly excited to bring GlitterBeam’s unique blend of music and entertainment to the LGBTQ+ community and allies in York.

“Our mission is to provide a platform for diverse voices and celebrate the full spectrum of LGBTQ+ life through music, conversation, and shared experiences.”

GlitterBeam Radio offers a vibrant mix of programming, including:

l Upbeat Music: A sparkling selection of pop, dance, and LGBTQ+ anthems;

l Engaging Talk Shows: Discussions on LGBTQ+ issues, culture, and current events;

l Community News: Updates on local and national LGBTQ+ happenings;

l Special Events: Live broadcasts of Pride events, festivals, and more.

Staff at the station have already touched base with York Pride to let them know about the launch of GlitterBeam Radio broadcasting on DAB in the York area and they hope to start “a strong relationship” with York Pride. The station aims to be involved in York Pride next year and give the popular event wide coverage via DAB, Online, On App and Smart Devices.

GlitterBeam Radio also aims to connect with the LGBT+ Students across the two universities, York St John University and the University of York, and in general, create relationships across the city and give a community access to a potential 220,000 people via the Radio.

The station is also planning to promote York as a visitor destination at Christmas.
