“The successful candidate will lead on significant projects, including the York Central scheme, one of the UK’s largest and most ambitious city centre regeneration schemes.”

Adverts report a supportive environment, working collectively with teamwork.

Skills sought include working efficiently to defined budgets, inspiring and encouraging teams to flourish; working with the public, private and voluntary sectors; along with working with York and North Yorkshire Mayor David Skaith to “secure inward investment.”

The council continued: “As our new Director of City Development you will lead on the strategic infrastructure development of the city, major projects, regeneration, strategic planning, local plan, and projects associated with the combined authority.”

“Our size means that we are large enough to provide the rich mix of complexities facing local government, but at the same time we are small enough to enable you to get things done. So, this high profile role will provide you with the opportunity to make a significant difference as well as a platform to enhance your career.”

Ian Floyd commented: “York is a city with a prosperous, progressive, and sustainable outlook. For the past two decades, we have focused on growing well-paid employment and expanding our knowledge-based industries, transforming our economy, and adding 20,000 highly skilled jobs. The Director of City Development will play a crucial role in continuing this trajectory, ensuring York remains a place where businesses thrive, and residents prosper."

Helen Whiting, Chief Officer - HR and Support Services at City of York Council, added: “We are looking for someone who can inspire and lead a team, build collaborative partnerships, and drive forward our vision for York as a vibrant, prosperous, and inclusive city.
