Schneider Electric is set to create more than 200 jobs in Scarborough.

The energy management and digital automation multinational is investing £42 million in a new manufacturing facility in the town.

The new site will help meet the growing demand for equipment needed for the UK's shift towards renewable energy, electric vehicles, and energy-efficient buildings.

The facility, almost three times the size of Schneider Electric’s current Scarborough site, is designed to be a model for sustainable operations in the manufacturing sector.

It is expected to be a net-zero plant, using advanced technology to minimise energy waste and maximise the use of renewable energy.

The facility will produce 30 per cent of its energy from a state-of-the-art solar energy system, and will feature one of Europe's first fully electric paint lines.

It is targeting a BREEAM 'Excellent' rating, a mark of sustainable construction standards.

The site will also promote sustainable transport options for employees, with 30 EV chargers, as well as cycling racks and showers.

Operations will move to the new facility at Scarborough Business Park, less than 500m from the current premises.

The investment in Scarborough is in addition to a £7.2 million upgrade to Schneider Electric’s site in Leeds, announced in October 2023.

It means that, according to the company, it will create more than 300 jobs in Yorkshire over the next ten years.

Schneider Electric currently employs 5,000 people in the UK and Ireland, and ended 2023 with a global turnover of 36 billion euros.
