STAFF from a York hospital are lacing up their running shoes to raise funds and to boost the profile of health and wellbeing in the community.
Clifton Park Hospital is taking part in the Yorkshire Marathon Relay on October 20.
Three mixed teams of six athletes made up of theatre practitioners, physiotherapists, and housekeeping staff are taking on the streets of York, while competing to be the fastest team.
Organisers of the event say relay runners will take on individual distances between 2.8 miles and 6.1 miles.
A Clifton Park Hospital spokesperson said: “Participating in the Yorkshire Marathon Relay aligns with the hospital’s ongoing commitment to the health and wellbeing of the local community.
“The hospital aims to raise significant funds for St Leonard’s Hospice, helping to ensure the charity continues providing essential services to those that need it.
“Additionally, Clifton Park Hospital is proud to be one of the official sponsors of the Yorkshire Marathon 2024, reinforcing their dedication to both healthcare and community support.”
Jane Tomlinson’s Run for All Yorkshire Marathon spokesperson said: “We are incredibly excited about the relay this year, with teams from all over the country joining in.
“It uniquely makes marathon distance accessible to everyone, highlighting the strong connection between community and sport.”
