The Cookery School at The Grand, York, is hosting  The Great York Family Cookery Competition.

The event on Wednesday September 25 is in collaboration with York City Football Club Foundation and York Food & Drink Festival

York Food & Drink Festival is a not-for-profit organisation that operates a 10-day festival in the centre of York, which starts tomorrow (Friday Sept 20) and runs until Sunday the 29th.

The event aims to promote local food producers, independent restaurants and retailers.

Alongside this, the Grand offers over a thousand free workshop places for primary School children and Youth Groups as well as free events for the public to take part in.

This year is hosting a part of the York City Community Foundation Cookery Competition at The Grand, showcasing home cooking and family meals.

York City FC Foundation is a charitable organisation with the fundamental aim of finding ways of supporting the local community by providing opportunities for physical activity, social elements and enjoyment.

Its partnership with the York Food and Drink Festival for 2024 reflects the importance of physical health and nutrition for families.

The collaborative competition promises a family element to the festival with key partners, York City FC Foundation and The Grand York, focusing on cultivating the next generation of budding chefs with a focus on creating healthy, balanced family favourite meals.

Entrants are invited to create their favourite post football match family recipe.

At the competition judges will be looking for a balanced family favourite with a twist and the hotel asks that each dish includes at least three fruits or vegetables.

The final shortlist will cook up their showstopping recipes at The Cookery School at The Grand, York on Wednesday 25th September from 6pm in their family pair.

All ingredients will be provided, and finalists will have one hour to prep, cook and plate up their delicious meals!

The finalists will be judged by Chefs from the Cookery School and YCFC Foundation Management, and the winning pair will receive a family ticket (up to six people) to York City v Ebbsfleet in October and a meal in The Rise Restaurant at The Grand. Two selected runners up will receive tickets to a York City match in October and an afternoon tea at The Grand.

Entries close noon on Thursday September 19 and the finalists will be selected on Friday September 20 and they will be notified as soon as possible.
