York’s Lord Mayor Margaret Wells will be making bread and pasta in the city centre tomorrow.

The tasks will be done after the Civic Party have opened the largest venue in York Food Festival, which opens tomorrow (Fri 20th) and runs until Sunday the 29th.

The Food Factory Marquee  is situated within the Museum Gardens under the Multangular Tower.

During the ten-day festival the Food Factory will present a hand-on cookery attraction.

Entry will be free of charge, funded largely by the income generated from the Festival Markets in  Parliament Street.

After officially opening the Food Factory, Mayor Wells and the Civic Party will take part in some of the activities there, including bread, butter, and pasta making, an introduction to cheese making, and demonstrations of salting and smoking fish, along with preparing a range of vegan dips.

The Food Factory will be open daily during the Festival until September 29. Operating hours are from 10am, with last entry at 3pm on weekends.

During the week, public access is available with a daily session at 3pm, as the mornings are dedicated to primary school groups from across the city.

For the first time, there will also be sessions for Scouts and Guides in the late afternoon and early evening. In total, over 1,000 children are expected to participate, with a similar capacity for adult and family groups. No pre-booking is required.

Other festival attractions include community events and entertainment. The festival features events across the city with Museum Street, Parliament Street and St Crux Hall, the main venues.
