All change again in Acomb: What a lot of bollards!

SO, now 90 of the 131 bollards in Acomb are to be removed?

When they were first installed businesses and residents of Acomb objected to them.

But were told they were necessary.

Now 90 of them are being removed. So those bollards that are removed could surely go elsewhere in central York.

But whose idea was it to install them in the first place?

Now shoppers and retailers are going to be disrupted again when the road is re-surfaced.

Maybe during this resurfacing they could also look at the very uneven flagstones outside the shops.

If they want to spend all the £570,000 before March, then spend it on the flagstones.

Missed opportunity for Piccadilly?

THE double-page spread of Reynards, Piccadilly, in the Press, September 18, pages 20 and 21, reminded me of one of those York might-have-beens, of which there must be many in the annals, admittedly not all potentially good.

I believe the following example was a good idea.

A proposal was made a few years ago to adapt and develop this dilapidated, but salve-able, building in a way which would have markedly enhanced Piccadilly.

The plan was for a small museum commemorating the structure’s pioneering aviation role as the Airspeed factory with connections to Nevil Shute and Amy Johnson to name but two.

It seems remarkable that aeroplanes were actually designed and built within the city walls - 1930s aviation might have been placed alongside other evocations of the Art Deco period, perhaps plus cafe, accommodation, shops etc.

Something different? Missed opportunity?

Law is an ass

FOR throwing a brick through a hotel window, attempting to overturn a police van, you end up in prison for two years.

For exchanging horrific images of children being abused you receive a suspended sentence, the equivalent of being sent to stand in the naughty corner.

They say at times the law is an ass, this analogy would suggest this to be true.
