A POPULAR venue at the heart of York is set to close temporarily to get ready to celebrate Oktoberfest next week.

From Monday, September 23 to Thursday, September 26 Spark:York is set to be transformed into a cosy haven with the help of Leeds-based designer Sachelle Clarke, complete with a newly installed canvas rooftop.

To prepare for the event, the venue will be closed from Monday (September 23) to Thursday (September 26).

Matthew Kirk, general manager at Spark, said: “We’re excited to host this Oktoberfest party as a heartfelt thank you to our community for their ongoing support.

"The event not only marks the transition into the upcoming winter season but also offers a wonderful opportunity to bring everyone together for a weekend filled with Bavarian fun and community spirit.”

The in-house Art Group Studios will also host a complimentary painting class for all ages and skill levels, starting at 6pm. Reserve your spot in the class here.

A Spark spokesperson said: "The weekend celebration will highlight the independent businesses, partners, and initiatives that are part of the Spark community.
