An 18-year-old from near York is to take part in a gruelling challenge after being inspired by his grandmother's battle with a devastating illness.
Freddie Amy will run the London Marathon in April of next year to raise funds for Dementia UK.
The 18-year-old, from Riccall, said he was encouraged to do so by his grandmother, Jutta Sharp, 89, who was diagnosed with dementia during the pandemic.
"I've seen first-hand the impact dementia can have on a loved one, and I wanted to do something positive in honour of my grandmother and others presently dealing with dementia," Freddie said. "Running the marathon is a personal challenge, but it's also an opportunity to encourage others to get involved and make a difference."

Freddie, a former pupil of the Read School in Drax, hopes to raise £2,000 for the charity, which supports those living with dementia and their families.
“I hope to show that no matter your age, you can step up and help make a change,” he said.
