Aviva employees from across Yorkshire will take part in a cycling challenge this week to raise funds for York Against Cancer.

Those taking part in the Thursday event have the option of four routes, with varying degrees of difficulty. The shortest route is 25km and the longest is nearly 150km!

All routes will start at Aviva’s Wellington Row office in York, but Aviva employees are joining from around the country.

The Cycle Challenge organisers hope to reach a £15,000 fundraising target for the day – and Aviva will match the funds raised pound for pound.

The beneficiary charity for the event is York Against Cancer, who fund pioneering cancer research, offer a range of support services, and provide cancer awareness and education in and around the York area.

Sally Dillon, Aviva’s Community Ambassador in York, said: “We recognise that Cancer affects so many people in our city at some point in their lives, so we’re delighted that this year’s Cycle Challenge will be raising much needed funds for York Against Cancer.

“The cycling challenge is just one of the ways we’re giving back to the community, and the event also helps to promote sustainable transport in York. Aviva colleagues love coming together for a good cause, which we know benefits both their physical and mental wellbeing.”

Julie Russell from York Against Cancer, added: “York Against Cancer is grateful for all donations and fundraising contributions however big or small, so it’s wonderful that Aviva colleagues are taking part in the York Cycling Challenge to help to support the range of services we provide.

“With the help of generous donations from the public, we have recently opened The Leveson Centre, which is a home-from-home, non-clinical cancer support centre providing holistic care services to anyone affected by cancer.”
