York is the second best university city for a night out, according to research.
Security staffing and training platform Get Licensed published its top 10 list to mark the start of the new academic year.
Its research saw an overall index score which was compiled from the proportion of bars, clubs and pubs, the percentage of venues rated over three stars, and the average prices of a taxi and a pint of beer.
Get Licensed also attempted to measure a city's safety, including individuals' fears and comfort with walking home alone at night.
In its list, Durham came top with a score of 9.44 out of 10. The North-East city ranked first in all "wellbeing" factors, and saw 95 per cent of its bars rated three stars or above.
