A YORK singer songwriter and his company brought music from the movies to an audience of 800 at the city's Minster.
Alistair Griffin's Ignite Concerts performed A Night at the Movies in the historic cathedral, which was transformed into a magical space, illuminated by the flicker of over 1,500 candles.
The event saw powerful renditions of classic film songs such as My Heart Will Go On from Titanic, She from Notting Hill and The Sound of Silence from The Graduate. The Ebor Quartet added to the enchantment, performing stirring instrumental versions of famous scores like Pirates of the Caribbean, Harry Potter, and Lord of the Rings.
In a crowd-pleasing moment, Captain Jack Sparrow himself made a surprise appearance during the Pirates of the Caribbean theme, delighting fans of the swashbuckling franchise.
Alistair said: “Performing in York Minster was always going to be special. The atmosphere, and the energy from the audience made it a truly magical evening. It was our biggest show to date, and I’m just thrilled that people loved it.”
York Minster, with its rich history and awe-inspiring architecture, provided the perfect backdrop for this cinematic concert, adding a sense of grandeur to an already mesmerising experience.
For fans of Ignite Concerts, the excitement doesn’t end here. Tickets for their highly anticipated Big Christmas Concert are now on sale. The show promises a live band playing all the Christmas favourites from the Pogues to George Michael. There’ll be a brass band to welcome you with carols and a few games to keep the audience on their toes. With mulled wine from the festive bar, it’s the perfect Christmas night out.
Set to take place on December 14 and 21 at Q York on Priory Street, this festive event promises another magical evening filled with Christmas classics, candlelight, and bags of festive cheer. This year there’ll also be a matinee performance on the afternoon of December 21.
Alistair said: “ We’ve added an afternoon show to give everyone the opportunity to see the show. So you can get in the Christmas spirit and be home in time to watch Strictly.”
If A Night at the Movies was any indication, The Big Christmas Concert is not to be missed.
Back in 2022 Alistair, who shot to fame on the BBC talent show Fame Academy in 2002, scored a number 5 hit with a track co-penned with his former mentor, BeeGee Robin Gibb.
