A MAJOR event in York is to mark the ten years since York was named a UNESCO City of Media Arts.

Reignite is staging its sixth event on Thursday November 7, which again will involve hundreds of the city’s creatives and businesspeople coming together.

This event will coincide with the BAFTA-Qualifying Aesthetica Film Festival, creating a vibrant hub of creativity and innovation across the city.

Reignite VI : Culture Makes Places begins at 6.30pm at the Yorkshire Museum and is being opened by the Mayor of York & North Yorkshire, David Skaith.

Mayor Skaith will be joined by representatives from three European Cities of Media Arts, who will speak on how they use culture to drive economic impact and create jobs and opportunities. The cities attending are Braga in Portugal, Oulu in Finland and Lintz, in Austria.

Afterward, guests can enjoy a complimentary drink at the Guildhall, to experience the city’s inaugural UNESCO City of Media Arts Expo.

The event features 25 businesses exhibiting their skills, promising an unparalleled opportunity to experience cutting-edge work, forge strategic partnerships and meet the future creators making waves in the UK’s Creative Industries.

It aims to create a vision for the city to use its UNESCO Media Arts designation to attract inward investment, develop educational pathways, retain graduates, create more jobs, and quantify the economic impact of the sector on the wider economy of York.
