A garden centre company, which has a branch in York, has announced the closure of 17 of its sites.

Dobbies has confirmed that the selection of their 'unprofitable' branches will be closed by the end of the year, in a move that will impact 465 of their 3,600 employees.

The York location, in Nether Poppleton, opened in 2013 after the company withdrew their plans to open a site at the Designer Outlet, in 2009.

In August 2024, Dobbies revealed they were planning a financial overhaul and warned that it might cause closures.

The Retail Gazette reported that Dobbies will be working with landlords to seek temporary rent reductions at a further nine of their sites.

They added that all shops will continue to operate as normal until closure.
