A YORK plant shop has been celebrated with an award in a top flower show.

Abbi Dixon, who owns Botanic in Walmgate, was delighted when her display received a gold award at this year’s Harrogate Flower Show – an accolade not rivalled by any of the other competitors in the houseplants section.

This win also comes off the back of a silver at the Chelsea Flower Show.

According to Abbi, her entry for Harrogate was a 'stripped back' version of the display that the company made at Chelsea – creating an 'Atlas of Houseplants' from around the world, exploring six different regions with a write up of the plants, the climate, and the impact that their environment has in caring for them.

In addition to the plants themselves, the three-person strong team from Botanic created a display map with preserved reindeer moss – colour coordinating each region of the globe to the pots each plant was stored in.

On her experience at the show, Abbi said: “Harrogate is a more laid-back show and there’s more Northern stores involved, so it’s nice to meet local shop owners.”

The show also focused on plant styling and gave the team a chance to showcase their staging and rental options to a larger audience – an element of their business that they hope to build with plant styling and maintenance currently offered for corporate, retail, and residential settings.

The team at Botanic also plan to compete in other shows going forward including the RHS Spring Show at Harrogate.
