In the wake of Ofgem's changes to the price cap, which came into effect on October 1, Skipton and Ripon MP Sir Julian Smith has advised households to contact their suppliers to find out what assistance may be available.
Mr Smith said: "The 10 per cent rise in the energy price cap is concerning for many constituents.
"Despite challenges posed by Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the previous Government supported low-income households.
"However, the current Labour Government has removed up to £300 in Winter Fuel Payments from 10 million pensioners, leaving them with higher bills and less support.
"I urge the Government to reconsider this urgently.
"Anyone concerned about their bills, and in need of support, should contact their energy supplier in the first instance.
"Suppliers can offer various options such as payment plans, reviews of current payments and debt repayments, payment breaks or reductions, more time to pay, and access to hardship funds.
"Suppliers can also provide advice on reducing energy usage.
"Constituents in need of further assistance should contact me directly via my email."
