This person replied: “The most hidden gem of all is the Turkish bakery inside Zam Zam supermarket. Great bread and fresh cooked pastries for cheap. Spinach and cheese twist is great. Get a massive zataar bread for a couple of quid.”

Another agreed: “The ZamZam bakery is the most secret of ancient knowledge. It is truly a blessing to be told about it.”

"I think one of my favourites is the Yak & Yeti Gurkha restaurant on Goodramgate (little door to the side of the Tesco Metro) which is amazing food. The Dal Bhat set plates are outstanding," one recommendation reads.

This Reddit user said Flori on Scarcroft Road is a “fantastic little bakery,” adding “I've even bumped into people on the train that were travelling to York just to grab cakes.”

They also wrote about Partisan on Micklegate: “Great place for lunch, dinner and baked goods. Lots of good veggie and vegan options. I'd highly recommend it."

Someone else put: “El Paradiso on down from Foss Gate. Little family owned Italian restaurant. Best Italian food in the city.”

Fancy a Sunday roast now we’re in autumn? One account shared: “If you love a roast, I highly, highly recommend The Ackhorne on micklegate. They only serve food on Sundays and you have to book ahead, but the chef used to work in a Michelin star restaurant and you can definitely tell.”

“Osbournes on Gillygate is nice too. Good cafe and not too expensive. Good breakfasts, nice cakes, lovely staff, and a great garden hidden in the back for summer,” responded this person.

Another local said: “Taas Indian/Nepalese restaurant at the end of Bootham just by the walls.”

This suggestion also said: “Goji is a lovely little veggie place on Goodramgate. Their menu changes pretty regularly, but it's mostly a sort of home-cooked vibe, without being too healthier-than-thou.”
