A Fulford care home joined people around the UK in observing the two-minute silence on Sunday, November 10.
On Remembrance Sunday, Ouse View care home's residents also wore poppies, watched the televised service from The Cenotaph, and took part in therapeutic activities towards a Remembrance memorial.
This included using recycled bottles to make poppies, with the bottles painted red and black and then draped on a cargo net.
The residents' memorial also included a wreath and photos.
One resident added a picture of her father, who had joined the army at the age of 19.
Barbara, a resident at Ouse View, said: "It is very important that we keep the memories of those who fought alive and that we also think about those involved in conflicts around the world today.
"The memorial is very good and I love that my dad is a part of it.
"I remember once when we were hiding in the shelter my dad was away in the war and we thought the Germans were in the house.
"It wasn’t, it was my dad coming home with his big boots on - we said 'they are here!'"
Margo, also an Ouse View resident, told a story of the war: "I was at an all-girls school in Scarborough when the air raid went off.
"We were dispersed into the community in people’s houses.
"We didn’t like that very much - we stopped that and got our own shelters at the school.
"I met my husband and he was in the war, he was a navigator (the mind of the plane you know).
"We used to hide under the stairs when the raids went off."
On Monday, November 11, the residents were treated to their own Remembrance Day service by Jackie Turvey from St Oswald's Church in Fulford, followed by coffee and cake.
Ouse View care home is run by Barchester Healthcare and provides residential care, dementia care, and respite care.
