A Costa Coffee outlet in York, which recently received a one-star rating for food hygiene, has been re-inspected and now has four stars.
The fresh 4-star rating, meaning ‘good,’ follows the Costa Coffee at The Old Signal Box at York Station receiving the one, meaning ‘major improvement necessary’ following an inspection in August.
City of York Council declined to release details of the inspection in case it prejudices any further action it may take following current investigations.
However, the Food Standards Agency website reported that website reported that hygienic food handling was ‘generally satisfactory.’

Similarly, the cleanliness and condition of the facilities and the building was also ‘generally satisfactory.’
However, for management of food safety, it was a matter of ‘Major Improvement Necessary.’
Costa Coffee then took ‘immediate action’ to rectify concerns.
A spokesperson said: “We’re pleased to hear that our Old Signal Box, Station Road store in York received a ‘good’ 4-star rating from the Food Standards Agency. This rating demonstrates our ongoing commitment to cleanliness and hygiene, providing a safe environment for both our customers and team.”
Other Costa Coffee cafes across York all have the highest 5-star ratings, meaning ‘very good’, while the venues in Haxby and Pocklington also have 4-star ratings.
