It’s the most wonderful time of the year because York’s Christmas Markets are back – will you be visiting this year?
The festive markets provide the perfect place to get into the Christmas spirit with a variety of stalls offering gifts, locally sourced food, ceramics, artwork and so much more.
To help create a magical atmosphere, there will also be twinkling lights, brass bands and carol singers to name a few.

What dates are York Christmas Markets 2024? Opening times
This year, York’s Christmas Markets will be running from November 14 until December 22, “bringing festive cheer to the heart of the city”, according to Visit York.
The magical markets will also be open from Monday to Sunday, 10am until 7pm.
Additionally, a quieter period from 10am to 12pm daily “ensures that the market is accessible to all visitors”.
Where are York Christmas Markets?
Those attending the festive markets will be able to find the stalls on Parliament Street and St Sampson’s Square.
Visit York commented: “The market is not just about shopping - it's about creating a welcoming and inclusive experience for everyone.
“There’s a focus on sustainability with a selection of traders committed to ethical and eco-friendly practices.”
The visitor information website for York continued: “The Take A Seat Initiative ensures that everyone, including those with reduced mobility, can comfortably enjoy the festivities around the city, while the Safe Space Scheme for women offers peace of mind for those who might need it.
“Make it York are working in partnership with St Sampson's Centre and City of York Council to deliver a 'Quiet Oasis': an accessible space a few meters away from the main market and next to the accessible toilet and Changing Places facilities in Silver Street.”
How many stalls are at York Christmas Markets?
For 2024, there will be 75 alpine chalets set up around York including stalls from Lush, The Yorkshire Candle Company, York Cocoa Works and many more – see the full list of traders here.
They will each be offering an array of local crafts, artisan products and seasonal treats.
Visit York adds: “The vintage carousel on King’s Square adds to the festive atmosphere, making it a perfect spot for families and visitors alike.
“With 80% of the traders hailing from Yorkshire, this is a fantastic opportunity to support local businesses while enjoying the best of what the region has to offer.”
