A North Yorkshire village pub once visited by Princes William and Harry has closed.
The Grade II-listed Ship Inn at Aldborough, near Boroughbridge, made the announcement on social media last week.
The ‘team’ posted on Facebook: “It is with a heavy heart that we announce The Ship Inn has closed its doors indefinitely. This decision was not made lightly, and we want to express our deepest apologies for any disappointment this may cause. We understand how much the Ship Inn means to you, and it has always been our pleasure to serve you.
“We want to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for your support. We are truly grateful for the wonderful memories. From the laughter shared over meals to the special events we’ve hosted, each moment has been a cherished part of our journey.

The venue was highly-rated, receiving 4.5 stars out of five on Google, based on 306 reviews, with its food offering, such as Sunday Roasts, particularly praised.
In January 2011, Princes William and Harry visited the pub for three hours as part of a group of 16.
As the Press reported at the time, “the brothers were in the village for a friend’s wedding, which was also attended by William’s fiancée, Kate Middleton.
“The future king tucked into a cottage pie and a Coke while his brother, who joined the party after lunch, chose a pint of cider.”
Its then landlord Brian Rey told the Press: “The regulars were amazed and chuffed silly.”
For security reasons Brain was not told of the special guests until ten minutes before they arrived.
He added: “Word spread like wildfire and our takings were up by 20 per cent on Saturday.”
The Ship Inn is owned by Star Pubs and was managed by UK Pub Management Ltd, who also run the Spotted Ox in Tockwith and the Black Swan in Bedale.
Regional manager Cameron Gilchrist told the Press: “Unfortunately it was not busy enough. It’s a real shame. It’s a lovely pub but unfortunately, it was not working for us.”
Star Pubs have already advertised the lease, saying a refurbishment is planned.
The annual rent is £48,507 and the estimated annual turnover is £689,949, Star Pubs has posted online.
