A former York man is opening a new bar in the centre of Harrogate next month, which promises to be lively, upmarket and good value.

Now, an opening date has been confirmed for The Wicked Wolf on Friday December 6 at 7pm, with an opening party featuring Ellie Sax.

A site for a Wicked Wolf in York is also being sought.

The bar is in Unit 3 of the Royal Baths in Montpellier Gardens, which was once home to the Potting Shed, Rift & Co and Revolution.

The venue spans a massive 7,000 square feet and the former Harrogate Borough Council had it on the market for £120,000 a year.

After a £150,000 upgrade, the Wicked Wolf promises lots of new features, including a karaoke room, and will be open until 3am at weekends.

There will be a DJ every Friday and Saturday, with live music performances during the week.

The building will be split into a food and restaurant area which will serve up pizzas, burgers and Mediterranean food on one side with the rest of the site becoming a bar area.

Wicked Wolf owner Kevin Spencer, who now lives in Wakefield, told the Press he has been running bars and rubs for 39 years.

The 47-yeat-old is opening his first venture in Harrogate because “it’s a lovely area, in an amazing venue.”

“It’s in the centre of Harrogate in the old Royal Baths, which have a beautiful kind of architecture. It’s an ideal location and venue for an upmarket bar in Harrogate.”

However, Kevin says he will be price-matching some of his competitors and offering cheap deals, whilst providing “better service and quality of food.”

The Wicked Wolf, he describes as a ‘new concept’ of bar.

Promotions for it say: “It's wicked... Very wicked and the new place to be in the centre of Harrogate. Perfect for a get together with friends and making memories...Wicked ones!”

Recruitment for staff in Harrogate is also underway and videos promoting the venue have also been placed on social media.

Kevin says a Wicked Wolf will be opening in Sheffield and he is looking at other sites in West Yorkshire.

“I’m originally from York and grew up in Poppleton. We are looking for a venue in York. I am looking for the ideal venue where it will do well,” he added.

The arrival of the Wicked Wolf comes amid a series of bar openings in the North Yorkshire spa town.

A Katie O’Brien’s Irish Tavern is due to open in The Ginnel, Harrogate, sometime in December.

A sportsbar called the Mayfair Pub Kitchen is also due to open in Parliament Street by the Year end.
