“Hospitality is vital to the York economy and HAY is determined to continue supporting the city’s growth in tourism, retail and business sectors”

Along with the support of the HAY executive committee: Vice Chair, Stewart Lorimer, Secretary, Rebecca Layton and Treasurer, Lionel Chatard, Stefan will continue to ensure future delivery of the goals and ambitions of HAY.

With more than 2,000 guest bedrooms between them and just over 1,500 employees, HAY is represented on different bodies in York, such as the tourism advisory board, Chamber of Commerce, Indie York, and the York BID.

At the November HAY meeting, where Stefan was elected, members also paid tribute to the work of Adam Wardale, who has chaired the organisation since 2022.

The General Manager of Middletons Hotel in Skeldergate is widely recognised for being the driving force of the recent launch of the HAY Awards, which were hailed as a huge success by all those involved.

Adam has also led some pivotal partnerships including the Hospitality Connect programme and the prison service release on temporary licence scheme.

He is due to leave his role at Middletons at the end of the month to start as Director of Hospitality at Middleton Hall Retirement Village in County Durham.

Hotel and brewing company Daniel Thwaites, who own Middletons, are expected to announce a successor shortly.
