In response to the question, this Reddit account shared: “Golden Ball is definitely a hidden gem, community owned with a nice terrace garden.

“Angel on the Green is also one of my fave pubs/bar/restaurant thing.”

Another put: “The Blue Bell is a really nice tiny old pub that is worth a pint in.”

A member of the r/York subreddit, also agreed: “Blue bell is a must visit just for the quirkiness. Best Guinness in York aswell. Doesn't have F1 or river view but plenty of other pubs do.”

They continued: “House of trembling madness is also a good one.

“Plonkers is good and food great, with riverside seating.”

Meanwhile, this resident suggested: “The Micklegate social is great and seems to fit your description! It’s a cocktail bar but do great beers and has outdoor seating on the street which looks onto the Micklegate bar x”
