One in every £3 in York is spent by visitors from elsewhere, according to analysis by Centre for Cities.

The analysis of the UK's 63 largest cities and towns also saw York rank second for the share of local spending done by overnight visitors, at 12.2 per cent (compared to 12.8 per cent in Blackpool, which took the top spot).

Centre for Cities, a think tank and charity self-described as "dedicated to improving the economies of the UK's largest cities and towns," has detailed its findings in the report ‘Spending time: the role of the visitor economy in UK cities,' published today (November 20).

The think tank's findings were based on analysis of "over 30 million" geolocated card transactions by UK card holders in UK cities and towns in 2023, provided by Fable Data.
