Press readers have nominated their best coffee shop in York, the votes have been counted up and narrowed down to a shortlist – with an overall winner to be announced in the coming weeks.

We sent a call-out to readers to tell us their favourite in our Best Coffee Shop competition.

In alphabetical order, the top 10 shortlisted are:

  • Bite and Basket - Boroughbridge Road
  • Brew and Brownie - Museum Street
  • Café at no. 12 - Tadcaster Road
  • Chocolate and Co - Lowther Street
  • Cocoa Joe’s - Museum Street
  • Coffee Culture - Goodramgate
  • Divine Coffee Roasters - Micklegate
  • Paradiso Dolce Salato - Walmgate

Readers of The Press can now cast a vote for their overall winner by picking up a copy of the newspaper from today (Monday, November 25) until December 7 and posting the slip.

The winner is set to be announced in the week commencing December 16.

We have a short profile of a different coffee shop in the top 10 every day in the newspaper and online during the voting window.

After the nominations in The Press’ Best Coffee Shop competition opened, Nigel Burton, editor of The Press, said:  “Coffee shops provide people with a neighbourhood place to do so many things - from spending quality time with family and friends, ducking in from the rain, taking a business meeting, or even just some time for themselves watching the world go by.

 “Plenty of us will say that a visit to their favourite spot for a hot drink and maybe catching up with owners and regulars helps them to make it through the day, and for others the ambience makes them an essential part of a regular routine.

 “At The Press, we want to celebrate the people behind these businesses, who work hard for their customers, opening varied hours and providing a great backdrop for their enjoyment.”
