Kingfisher spotted by litter-strewn River Foss in York

PATIENCE paid off for this photographer who has snapped an image of a kingfisher by the River Foss in York.

The bird was spotted by the Foss by Nick Lincoln, a member of our Press Camera Club.

Nick posted the image in our Facebook group with the message: "The Foss is making a comeback and is looking healthy. The proof I was watching a pair of kingfishers for over an hour. We really need to keep on top of it though as you can see people still litter the river without a care!" Although kingfishers are common in England, spotting - let alone photographing them - can be tricky.

Seeing a kingfisher in the wild often requires patience, planning, and luck because they are elusive, small, and move very quickly.

So well done Nick! And thanks for sharing your photo.
