Britain dumped other mistakes: time to dump Brexit
DAVID Walmsley is right about the negative impact of Brexit on UK trade (Letters: Do the right thing). No major economist disagrees; the Governor of the Bank of England is just one of many underlining the massive harm to our economy.
None of those who clamoured for Brexit - Boris, Farage, Rees-Mogg, Leasom among them - now bother to pretend that any good has come from cutting ourselves off from trading with our own continent.
Imagine a York milkman deciding to save their business by selling milk in Cornwall instead of the villages round York. That’s what we have done to our own economy.
It’s no longer if but when a UK Government will find the courage to abandon this pointless exercise in self-harm. We’re currently all lost on a minibus heading down a bumpy trail towards a landfill site but the driver lacks the courage to admit we’ve taken the wrong turn.
Meanwhile ... the poor are left to choose between food and heating, councils scrap services, public transport and infrastructure remain underfunded, and potholes proliferate.
Britain dumped other mistakes: Poll Tax, Sinclair C5, amphibious scooters, shoe umbrellas and Non Fungible Tokens. Time to dump Brexit.
