A decorative York figure was "left shaken" after being moved and dumped in the city centre.
One of the Nutcrackers, from the popular Nutcracker Trail, went missing on Wednesday night (November 20) – only to turn up in the city centre, wrapped in a binbag and blanket, early on Thursday (November 21).
The Great Britain Nutcracker, which has been at Barley Hall, in Coffee Yard, near Stonegate, since Thursday, November 14 was removed from its spot and taken across the city to another location where it was found after a search.

While the culprits are yet to be identified, York BID and North Yorkshire Police are currently looking into the incident in a bid to ensure that it doesn’t happen again.
Carl Alsop, operations manager at York BID, said: “With the support of our partners we knew we’d be able to track our Nutcracker down and we were thrilled when we found him, slightly shaken, but in one piece.
“It was a freezing -4C morning, so I’d like to think that someone just wanted to offer him a little extra warmth. While a nice thought, we’d like to remind everyone that our Nutcrackers are built to weather the cold and prefer staying in place for everyone to enjoy!”
For anyone who wants to see the Great Britain Nutcracker, he is now safely back in his usual position at Barley Hall with the rest of the Nutcracker Trial and ready to welcome visitors until January 1.
