Visitors should respect our city and take litter home
RUBBISH left strewn on shop window sills and on the floor down Shambles on Saturday evening - if there are no bins surely the visitors can respect our ancient city and take their rubbish with them?

A look back at legacy of John Prescott
RE: John Prescott's death. As Deputy PM and Minister of Transport John Prescott decided to impose the same level of tax and duty on bio diesel, as on ordinary diesel.
This all but stopped the mass production of bio diesel in the UK.
Air quality in our major towns and cities has been significantly poorer for over 20 years.
He was also tasked with bringing in regional assemblies to England.
Had he started in Cornwall and Yorkshire we would now have devolved regional assemblies, just like Scotland and Wales, across the regions of England.
On advice from civil servants John Prescott began with the North East of England.
The process came to a shuddering halt, which was exactly what Whitehall top civil servants wanted to happen.
Am I right in thinking more people live in Yorkshire than live in Scotland?

New musical for Labour
IS it true that Keir Starmer has commissioned Andrew Lloyd Webber to write a musical score for a new show to be called "The six billion pound black hole' .
This is to be based on a theory by Rachel Reeves - it seems at the moment every Labour politician seems to sing out the title at every interview they make.
Hope it's a lie same as the title.

Covid and winter driving
TO date, the Covid inquiry has cost more than £200m to determine what everyone knew from the outset - we weren't at all prepared, struggled to cope, mistakes were made.
The only people to benefit are the army of lawyers involved, plus the chairperson being paid over half a million pounds per year. No doubt she will produce a report as long as War and Peace which nobody will bother to read, further money down the drain.
Another thought - when I passed my driving test, admittedly last century, I was taught to always drive according to the prevailing road conditions, something today's generation totally ignore, driving in wintery weather as if its a balmy summers day, resulting in the sensible majority incurring higher premium costs. Does that unfairness trouble the insurance companies? What a stupid question.

Well done Nick!
WHAT a fantastic photo of the perched kingfisher peering down into the rubbish-strewn river Foss.
Nick Lincoln must be congratulated for his patience and skill in taking such a fine photo of the kingfisher.
Most of us would only see a flash of blue as they pass low and straight, at speeds up to 25mph.
There's an old saying "only the righteous see the kingfisher".
A beautiful and excellent photo Nick!
