TWO beaches in Yorkshire have been named among the best in England for a winter visit.
Robin Hood's Bay took the third spot and was praised by visitors for being "great for a winter walk" and sheltered from the wind.
Runswick Bay was named the seventh-best beach for a winter visit.
The study, by outdoor experts at GO Outdoors, assessed factors such as average rainfall, temperature, daylight hours, and popularity to rank England’s ideal winter beach walks.
Calum Jones, author and outdoor enthusiast at GO Outdoors, said: "Although the cold weather may cause people to stay inside, there is no better time to explore the UK than the winter months.
"As crowds disperse, visitors to beaches often find themselves with miles of coastline to themselves."
He also suggested that beachgoers should wrap up in the colder months with base layers and a good waterproof jacket to ensure they can enjoy English beaches regardless of the weather.
Bamburgh Beach in Northumberland topped the list as the UK's best winter walk.
The beach, known for its stunning views of the Farne Islands, is a popular year-round destination.
Durdle Door in Dorset, famous for its limestone arch, came second.
The Jurassic Coast Trust has highlighted the winter months as the best time to spot fossils there.
