CELEBRATIONS are underway after a visit from inspectors to a school in East Yorkshire.
Pocklington Junior School had an Ofsted inspection to determine whether the school had taken effective action to maintain the standards from an inspection in 2019 when the school was graded 'good'.
Inspectors said the school, which has 238 pupils, has maintained standards and that they were hugely impressed with the children, describing them as ‘happy and enthusiastic at this ambitious and improving school’.

Head Kelly Foxton, said: “We are incredibly proud of our children and their achievements and pleased the Inspectors noted a culture of positive recognition runs through the school.
"Our children are actively involved in the day-to-day activities within our school through being playground pals school council and engaging in enrichment opportunities, this too was recognised by the Inspectors.”
Pocklington Junior School continues to work within its Trust, Wonder Learning Partnership, to refine the curriculum offer with inspectors being positive about the recent changes to improve reading and maths fluency. It was recorded that as a result pupils’ work is improving.
When it comes to things the school needs to improve inspectors said: 'In the past, the school’s approach to teaching reading has not sufficiently supported pupils to fully understand what they are reading. Some pupils have not developed age appropriate comprehension skills.
'The school should further develop the expertise of staff to consistently implement the new approach to the teaching of reading and maintain a sharp focus on developing pupils’ reading comprehension skills.'
Mrs Foxton said: "Our recent Ofsted inspection is a true reflection of the incredible efforts of our entire school community. I am immensely proud of the children and staff; their hard work, dedication, and unwavering support have been instrumental in this achievement.
"I am thrilled that the commitment and passion of our staff team have been recognised, and I want to thank our parents for the vital role they play in supporting their children and the school. It is an absolute pleasure to lead Pocklington Junior School, and I am so excited to continue guiding our school on its onward journey, building on this success together."
A particular highlight was the curriculum being recognised by Inspectors as ‘ambitious for all pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Staff deliver the curriculum with consistency’. The school continues to build on this to make learning accessible for all and by making reading a focus as this leads to incredible opportunities for children to thrive in their learning.
Mr Britton, Trust Chief Executive Officer, said: “Colleagues at Pocklington Junior School have worked incredibly hard to ensure its teaching and learning is ambitious, allowing all children to flourish.
"We are particularly proud the Inspectors highlighted the provision for Special Educational Needs (SEND) as a strength, and the Enhanced Resource Provision (ERP), introduced under Mrs Foxton, has been recognised as being transformational for the pupils accessing it.”
