A number of pigeons were disturbed - with one escaping - after intruders used understood to have used rocks to smash shed locks.
Police are appealing for for information after the sheds were damaged in Pickering.
A spokesperson said: "The incident happened between 5pm on 3 November and 7am the next day at sheds located near to the A169 near Whitby Road.
"Multiple sheds were damaged and it is believed rocks were used to smash the shed locks.
"During the incident pigeons were disturbed and one escaped.
"The missing bird will have a red ring around its right foot with an ID tag.
